Product Information
El Buho – Spanish for “the owl” – is a community lot from smallholder farms in Huila and Tolima, southern Colombia. It’s grown at 1,500 to 2,100 metres, from Castillo, Caturra and Colombia varieties.
It’s decaffeinated in Colombia using ethyl acetate, a natural compound made by fermenting sugar cane. The green beans are steamed at low pressure, then soaked in water and ethyl acetate for around eight hours to draw the caffeine out. A second steaming removes any trace of it before the coffee is dried, polished and packed.
